Problem Note 41851: The MDX CASE statement might return access violation errors

DetailsAboutRate It

The CASE statement, available in the MDX language, can be used to return different result expressions depending on the conditions evaluated in the WHEN clause. These results must be a scalar value, which should include numeric values, strings, and NULL cells. However, the current release returns an error indicating an access violation if a measure is referenced:

CASE
  WHEN [Time].currentmember.level is [Time].[Month] THEN [Measures].[MonthlyCount]
  ELSE [Measures].[AllCount]
END
As a workaround, you can use a product in your expression instead of the measure:
CASE
  WHEN [Time].currentmember.level is [Time].[Month] THEN [Measures].[MonthlyCount] * 1
  ELSE [Measures].[AllCount] * 1
END
